The Transparent Factory

Sunday, July 30th, 2006 at 10:04 pm

Having talked about the Volkswagen company in the previous post, I came upon a forum thread on their Phaeton assembly plant in Dresden. Also known as The Transparent Factory, they provide guided and self-guided tours almost every day. An amazing architecture feat for an automobile company; makes me want to work there even without having any interest in the industry.

Out on a test drive

Sunday, July 30th, 2006 at 1:55 pm

vw.jpgThe Volkswagen company has come out with another winner again: the VW GTI MkV. This smooth-looking speedster look nothing out of the ordinary; not as cool as the Mini, not as cute as their new Beetle. But you simply have to view their online strategy.
(see
http://www.vwfeatures.com/gti.html)

The sleek black-colored site allows every male to fulfill their innermost fantasy: to customize their own car and have a hot babe bringing you out for a test drive. You will choose how it look like with the colors, body kit and sunroof selections. You can even choose the transmission type and wheel dimensions, seats material, and even the inbuilt gadgets . But what the hell, we all just want to click the watch your joyride button.

Time to play again

Thursday, July 27th, 2006 at 1:54 am

It’s been more than 4 years since I played Everquest (EQ), the most popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (mmorpg) in the world. 4 long years since I really played into the wee hours of the night and waking up at 6am to start clocking another 10 hours a day of gameplay. And now 4 years later, something is pulling me back and this time, it’s Everquest 2.

Some gamers play to attain the highest levels, some play to ‘farm’ the best gears, either to show off or sell on eBay and some simply play; I’m one of those. Spending half a year on Everquest and reaching only level 23 (maximum of 50), one would wonder what have I been doing in the game? To all Diablo or Warcraft fanatics, let me tell you what you were missing out on.

First of all…

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 at 12:36 am

Met up with really old friends today and had a really different night out. Although it was not extreme biking, it was 60km/h on a Vespa and it felt crazy. I kept imagining about the bones that I’ll break and the various contortions my body will perform had I fall off. My first ever bike ride, exhilarating. Ryan, thanks for the experience.

My first real pitch

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006 at 11:25 pm

alv_ps.jpg See something familiar? Yup, that’s my face on the picture; my head on the body of Balfear, a character from the Final Fantasy series. No, I have not gone bonkers and I’m not planning to put my face on good looking dudes everywhere, but I did digitally imposed my colleagues’ faces into the many characters of this legendary game into a Powerpoint presentation.

Airlines Ads

Friday, July 21st, 2006 at 10:56 am

Next time you frantically grab an airsickness bag in-flight, you may be greeted with a surprise — an advertisement. And that pillow or blanket you used to take for granted? Get ready to pull out your wallet. US Airways, which already is putting ads on tray tables and napkins, is turning to airsickness bags as its next advertising canvas, starting in September.

The Coolest Ad I’ve Seen

Thursday, July 20th, 2006 at 12:23 am

wonderbra_s.jpgOne of the coolest ads I’ve ever seen. The Wonder Bra is demonstrated as effectively as if was performed on a actual pair of breasts. A drawstring brings the boobs together, giving women a chance to build higher road bumps on their airport runways. The simple design that actually requires interactivity from its readers is witty and effective. This is one advertisement every designer wish they thought of first.

Unique 2 you or not

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006 at 10:18 am

"You’ve picked the best of the unique and personal visions of Singapore, now see the winning photos at the opening of the Unique2Me exhibition." - VisitSingapore.com

Is this picture unique to you? No offense to Mr Wong Chek Poh, whose wide-angle view of the cityscape and fireworks is terrific. What wonders skills of photographers can make, for I was probably not more than 100m away, shooting pictures that looks more like Zouk’s dancefloor.

Creating Zen

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006 at 4:40 pm

zenv.jpgWhat is Zen? This word, taken from the Sanskrit term, dhyāna, means meditative concentration. In Singapore, most of us would think of space, white lines and unclutteredness. When people say they want a zen-like look to their apartments, naturally they want something clean and not overwhelming; soothing even.

So if you read today’s TODAY newspaper, you’ll see a rather cool, clean & uncluttered ZEN V, Creative’s new product that was.. wait ZEN what? ZEN V or ZEN Vision? Is it not the ZEN V Plus? Which is the ZEN V?

EFFIE Gold Awards Singapore

Monday, July 17th, 2006 at 10:09 pm

The legendary EFFIE Awards finally touched our shores with the 8th Singapore International Advertising Congress 2006 on 30th June 2006. View stories of the EFFIE Gold Winners at http://www.ias.org.sg/

Also, check out the moderately crass advertisement created in the promotional campaign on this event at http://www.ias.org.sg/goldeffie/tvc.html. Quite depressing that this glamorous award presentation is being graced with such an unflattering advertisement. Nevertheless, EFFIE rocks.

iWallop

Monday, July 17th, 2006 at 5:23 pm

I bet everyone has seen the OSIM iGallop ad (left) and wondered, what on earth is OSIM up to? As Marketing magazine puts it, "Isn’t there enough ugliness and superficiality in the world?" At the very beginning, did OSIM actually think such a product would work? Granted, OSIM’s innovations with the iSqueeze, a knee-high device that massages your feet and calves, was a tremendous success. Even a non-believer of luxury consumption like me would very often stick my fatigued sweaty legs into iSqueeze’s ‘leg-slots’ and enjoy the comfort of its vibrating plastic balls rollers.

alvie.net 2.0

Sunday, July 16th, 2006 at 5:13 pm

Yet another site revolution.

alvie.net is now a place for us to insert well-thought opinions regarding the marketing industry, especially of the advertising scene. In my fervor attempts to create a community that allows free debates of some of the good, the bad and the ugly of this puffery industry, I have faced multitudes of problems. alvie.net is a route to solving those problems; at the end of this year, I hope that my project will begin smoothly, at least in the local arena. Wish me luck.

For now, enjoy alvie.net.
