Foreign Talents or Talented Foreigners?
Edgar Goncalves have left for good. That was the headlines today on The New Paper. Now, why would he leave? And why in such a sneaky manner? This guy had scored over 100 goals in our very own professional football league, earned enough fans to be considered a position our national squad and had been given citizenship because of that. And now he’s leaving for good?
Funny how real-life events and what we study collide. I was just reading up on tomorrow’s International Economics quiz about each country’s resources and how manpower was one of them, even though it’s harder to show them in graphs because we don’t really price humans. Anyway, our dearest government gave citizenship to this talented foreigner, who probably don’t have the opportunity to clean the boots of a player in a English Division One side like Southampton. Our country gave him money, respect, trophies and a chance of representing his country. I mean, what else does a person want from the government?
Anyway, I have nothing against foreign talents. We are in semi-finals and finals of sporting events because of them. It’s just appalling how some talented foreigners make use of kindness and graciousness against the hands that fed them. Come on PAP, it’s time to give more to local talents and if you can’t find any out there, call me at 96784428. I may not score a lot of goals, but i’ll sure boost your economy with those fat salaries you’ll be paying me.
