Barcelona: An update of my life

Sunday, September 30th, 2007 at 6:45 am

It was both a bad and good time for me these recent weeks. First, I did whatever exchange students did. Partied like crazy and drank like crazy. When I think about friends being back in Singapore, in their 6th week of school, I can’t but just feel a tinge of gladness that I was not there. But then again, unhappy things have happened to my relationship with Stella. Close friends of mine knew what I’ve gone through and I am so happy that they were there when I was down. That was when I really wanted to be there in Singapore.

Things are getting better for me now. I’m partying and having fun and drinking again. I thought I owe some of my friends an explanation but it’s hard to say anything on these blog pages so let the story only be understood by those who already knew. For now, I’m going to post nice pictures, happy stories and wonderful tales of the people I’ve met, the places I’ve been to and the parties when I’ve gotten drunk.

To a close friend who is also having problems, stay strong and believe in love. No matter what happens.

P.S: I wrote the previous poem in Secondary 3.

Suffering Love

Suffering Love

Rampant sorrow sprouted from love
Blossomed to hurt and depress
Empty hearts with nothing to serve
But everything to make life a mess

Love begins with all romance
Absent tears and sad moments
Perceiving myself in paradise
Unconcious that it will make me cry

Fickle minds, my heart do fear
I stray away when they come near
What is it that my heart is sure
Is that love is no longer here

Giving up should not occur
For in love, I am mature
But in vain, fickle minds deter
Leaving me to end in tears

Barcelona: The Solo Flight

The Solo Flight

The transit at Heathrow, London

It was early and I had nothing to do

The Afghan is going for 3.49 pounds

I bought it and had some coins left. They add up to about 7 SGD

Beautiful airport in Barcelona

Heading for the Renfe train station

It’s not a short walk

The end of the flight, the start of a ride

Barcelona: The Beginning

The Beginning

It was the 26th of August. I waited until then to pack my luggage. In fact, I only bought the grey Samsonite a couple of days ago with Stella. I did not know what to pack. It is true that I’ve been to many countries (with help from the SAF and SMU), but packing for a 4 month trip seemed different. In the end, I didn’t care much more. If I don’t have it, I buy it or I do without it.

And so my last day in Singapore was fruitfully spent with my Mum and of course Stella. We went out for dinner with a friend of my mother’s and reached the airport early; more than 2 hours early. It was a comforting wait for them as they really didn’t have much to do except wait for me to go but I was nervous. Scared even. Scared that I might be robbed, scared that I might be bored, scared that I might miss the transiting flight and scared that I might lose my luggage. British Airways does have the reputation as the airline with the worst case of luggage losses. But a nice thing happened too. Zhiqin came to send me off. I was really touched. He who does not like wasting time with sleepovers, non-class school days or simply places more than 20 minutes away from his house, came all the way to the airport to send me off with the gift of a camera cleaning kit. Touched, and appreciated.

The walk through the glass opening that leads into the passengers hall was tough. I knew that once I stepped through, it would mean 4 months away from Singapore and 2 weeks away from Stella. I gave them all hugs and turned towards the doors. I wondered in my heart if Stella would miss me and that was answered in an sms barely 10 minutes later. She misses me already. Smiling, I proceed to the allocated gate and scanned in my bag. Another 10 minutes later, I was on the plane and all ready for Barcelona.

This is the beginning.
